Downtown LA Walks

“Downtown LA Walks” is the largest urban wayfinding effort in the nation. Comprised of over 1,300 vehicle and pedestrian signs, Downtown LA Walks” has made downtown much easier to navigate for visitors that are both driving and walking throughout the area. This, in turn, has gone a long way in making visitors feel safer and also more able to discover downtown’s many attractions, including public offices, subway stations, freeway entrances, and other frequently visited destinations.

The Confederation of Downtown Associations, an alliance of nine Downtown-area Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and business associations, spearheaded the effort and provided oversight for the project through a contract with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. The Los Angles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Community Redevelopment Agency, and the nine BIDs in the Confederation provided the necessary funding.

Urban Place was contracted by the Confederation to manage all phases of the project, from securing over $2 million in funding to installation of the signs.
